The Hetch Hetchy Valley 

There were four now three huge pipelines bringing millions of gallons of pristine water from the Hetch Hetchy Dam - the water store - granite walls - brought all the way to San Francisco - by gravity - some 160 miles - pristine water - all of which should be used only for drinking - but millions of this water used to flush our toilets.

Some months ago - we had two workshops - presenters - allowed to reveal facts - empirical data - showing us for the first time - after 15 long years - sharing facts that we appreciated - knowledge is power. 

For the last 20 years, we have been told fairy tales - and though privately we did our homework - we tolerated the nonsense told us - we did our homework - but today we have to speak out - because time is running out.

The Native American Tribes - the indigenous people lived here on Turtle Island for thousands of years - carbon-dated - over 15,000 years. 

Again and again, even as the indigenous people raise their voices - the Whites - Greedy as they are - turn away from wisdom and are now drowning in the cesspool of their own creation.

Water is Life. 

The salmon have long represented sustenance and life.

We may not know that -  but those who honor and respect Mother Earth - know what I say is key to life and nourishment and has been for thousands of years.

We think small - this Earth will survive all the pollution and contamination and forget who created this world - who looks after each and every species - and who on Earth is responsible for bringing about the extinction of millions of species. 

Time to pause, ponder, reflect and take drastic action - to correct the wrong - the proud and pompous - have done too much damage.

In the end, the Great Spirit sees it all - the indigenous people as they do now - will be the only ones who care for Mother Earth.

The  Elders have wisdom, and those who think they know some - know little - experience counts - and humility is an essential ingredient in all planning and decision-making.

Who will speak for the salmon?

Time is running out - and the time for long-drawn-out discussions is over - right now - this season - we have seen the results - the folly of those who are Greedy - and the depletion of the Salmon - revered and respected by the indigenous people.

In less than 300 years - much of what was pristine - has been polluted and contaminated.

Where once the White men came begging for help - he now bites the hand that fed him. Up until 1927, one could scalp an indigenous person and fetch a measly $5.

While speaking for the indigenous people and the salmon, I have tried my best - I have put the SF Public Utilities Commission on notice -  warned them - they will fall flat on their face - suffer the consequences - because they lie -  liars are NOT worth the salt.

These experts - have a model that works - favoring the healing of the Sacramento River and the SF Bay-Delta - and allow the Tuolumne River - access to more water - to save the Salmon - that will soon - be extinct.

Some of us advocates - were quick that the SF Public Utilities Commission - learned something from the experts,  the well-prepared workshops.

It turns out - you cannot teach an old dog - new tricks.

It is simply astounding that the SF Public Utilities Commission - co thinks that being pompous - can bypass those caring for our environment and ecology.

Our rivers and lakes, our flood plains - and the welfare of the Sacramento River - the Bay-Delta, the other rivers - and be so small-minded - without a vision - and settle for some Volunteer Plan - that does not meet the smelt test. 

It is critical the Sacramento River - pass the true "smelt test. " Control the salination - simultaneously provide water for farming -  heal and revive the entire ecosystem - that has been compromised from many adverse - impacts.

Stop the access pollution, fertilizers -  phosphates, sulfates, nitrates - other toxins - ultimately exiting and flowing into the Pacific Ocean.

Pollution and contamination that harms birds, flora, and fauna and adversely impacts - Native Plants.

Gone are the days - where the rich nutrients brought by the thousands of Salmon and deposited at the foot of the redwood trees, other native plants, one-of-a-kind reeds - most depleted, and no one seems to care.

The Great Spirit sees it all - who will speak for the Salmon?

The Gold Miners polluted the rivers and destroyed the wetlands laden with mercury and other contaminants.

Some wetlands were drained, and farmers were encouraged to farm - shortsighted, the wetlands were destroyed. Then when all options run out -  the farmers were told - they need to restore part of the wetlands. The wetlands have always done well - reducing pollution - and help the native plants, migratory birds - and others - thrive.

Recently the wetlands are rehabilitated it late - but not too late -  this back and forth - the Greed playing an important role - nature defied by Gold miners - and other entities.

 

Harlan Kelly, the former General Manager - charged by the Federal Bureau of Investigation - failed in his duties - lacked sound leadership and spent inordinate time wheeling and dealing - 

he will be brought before the courts and receive his due.

The interim General Manager - too - has not been clear - 

he keeps kicking the can down the street -

while all the time - the SF Public Utilities Commission -

is growing in the cesspool of its own creation.

For decades, the Raker Act and the many agreements have favored - the City and County of San Francisco. The agreements permit the City and County of San Francisco - to fill the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir with sufficient water  - for the present and future needs. 

The SF Public Utilities Commission has been told clearly that they have sufficient water for 4 and 6 years. 

The SF Public Utilities Commission - could easily agree and release some water - sufficient for the Salmon to survive.

The - SF Public Utilities has defied logic - and helped to kill the Salmon, and for this - the SF Public Utilities Commission -  will pay the price.

Sophie Maxwell is the Chair of the SF Public Utilities Commission; it comes as NO surprise - not educated on issues - each time she opens her mouth - she utters nonsense - the questions she asks are shallow - and while once agreeing that the presentations given by the advocates shed light - she now wants to implement some volunteer plan - that does not meet any standards and fails to adhere to the data - more empirical data.

Mayor London Breed - she throws a Johnson wrench - she now wants to anoint City Attorney to be the General Manager - of the SF Public Utilities Commission - the SFPUC corrupt and sinking - London for reasons best know to her - puts the fox in charge of the chicken coop.

The present SF Public Utilities Commission -  have spent months working with the SF Human Resources - to select a General Manager. 

Suddenly out of the blue comes the Mayor of San Francisco - London Breed - she says she wants to appoint San Francisco's City Attorney Dennis Herrera to be the next General Manager.

The SF City Attorney failed to understand a fake Volunteer Agreement does nothing holistic to help the Toulumne River - some power-washing of the river bed.

Building some barrier that supposedly would permit the Salmon to cross the barrier - and by osmosis keep the non-native fish and other unwanted species at bay.

The SF City Attorney - decides that he can sue the State of California - and demand the State of California to stay put - while he dances and sings the blues.

The current SF City Attorney is part of the problem - failed to do due diligence - the ongoing corruption at the SF Public Utilities Commission - the same can be said about the SF Controller's office - and one Ben Rosenfield.

Juliet Ellis - stepped down - involved in nefarious activities - good riddance of dreadful rubbish.

Dwayne Jones - President of Rudolf Dwayne Jones - Gate Keeper of the Bayview Hunters Point - self-appointed Philanthropist -bragger per excellence  - has hoodwinked the community - spent millions of Community Benefits on projects that cannot be accounted for - his time has arrived.

Why would the SF Public Utilities Commission - hold to access water and not release some water back into - the Tuolumne River.

Help the Salmon to breathe better - accommodate the flow of the Tuolumne - help the salmon move faster - help the temperature of the water.

The Scientists are studying -  the many adverse impacts - when the water is less - and the adverse impacts.

Added are the many factors linked to pollution and contaminants -  as the Scientists face and solve the adverse elements - linked to increased housing - the outflow of secondary effluents - plastics and garbage -  the scientists keep pushing for results due time - to bring some solace.

I often say who will speak for the Salmon? As the Salmon entered the various routes inwards bound - from the Pacific Ocean  - inward bound to spawn.

Dennis Herrera is an anathema to our City and County of San Francisco. For years Mr. Butte has been saying - he knows Dennis Herrera to be a provocateur and a person who has faked his resume.

Mr. Butte continues to send messages to the SF Controller - Ben Rosenfield - to the SF City Attorney Dennis Herrera, to the SF Board of Supervisors - to no avail.

Those appointed to the SF Public Utilities Commission - seem to rubber-stamp - what the corrupt want and desire. 

The General Manager of the SF Public Utilities - has been charged by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. His name Harlan Kelly - a scoundrel who has disgraced himself and cast a dark cloud on our Fair City - the City and County of San Francisco.

The Assistant General Manager for External Affairs - Juliet Ellis - has left her position - snitching and spilling beans on the way out.

Earlier - in her career - at the SF Public Utilities Commission - she was charged by the Fair Political and Practices Commission -  headquarter in Sacramento.

She ignored the charges - paid a fine - and continue to do her dirty work - pussyfooting around -  wasting millions of dollars - taxpayers' money. 

All those sitting on the present SF Public Utilities Commission have knowledge of the matter at hand - and think little of the abject corruption.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation - has many others - all lined up - the investigation was initiated by former Attorney General for Northern California - David Anderson.

The actions the SF Public Utilities plans to help the Salmon - are all so out fetched and foolish - proposing to build a fish barrier - that supposedly would allow only the Salmon to negotiate the barrier - and some by osmosis - keep non-native fish - out of the Tuolumne River.

We are fortunate to have many advocates who have dedicated their lives and spend thousands of man-hours - advocating for the good of the Tuolumne River. The other rivers - and advocating sound model - back by empirical data.

One of them is Peter Drekmeier - I defer to Peter Drekmeier - to speak for the Salmon - those aspects - scientific and falling into the category of empirical data and sound models.

It is amazing how the SF Public Utilities Commission - like chaff falling by the wayside and stay there - useless -  not adhering to common sense and better judgment.

What does it profit if you gain the assets of all the world - but lose your soul to corruption and blatant injustice - and commit acts such as bombing targets in Gaza and killing children?

We in the United States have given Israel a pass - just because our politicians in the past - have decided to be in bed with Israel and act as a prostitute.

The dynamics of justice and fair play - patterns and practice - implicit bias, racial discrimination - in fact the very Constitution that we quote - with understanding the core and hardwire - double talk - when it comes to the indigenous people - the Blacks - those most vulnerable - as we have witnessed - the hate crimes perpetrated on Asians in recent months.

Our United States - Congress and Senate cannot come to an agreement - how, to uplift each other - so why do we think - we have some wand that we as the United States - can bring about a solution - and save the Palestinians - when the Palestinians have NO rights - they are not even considered citizens of the land they live in.

The United States must acknowledge - that the two states' solutions - are not viable and sustainable - without the Palestinians having the Rights and the resources -  to be viable and sustainable.

Israel keeps tabs on every single movement, birth record, death record, property belonging to the Palestinians - and in recent months has had Israeli judges visiting a home - and declare that the occupation who are Palestinians leave the home - by decree.

Turn over the home that belongs to a Palestinian family - to the settlers who are mostly - Zionists - many have had little or nothing as far as living on the land - and ancestors who have no connection with the land.  

The world is fed up seeing so many children

We know for a fact - Israel has trillions of dollars in assets - all over the world.

We know that Israel continues to brag that it is a Democratic nation?

What Democratic nation deprives people who have lived on the land for thousands of years - deprive them of citizenship and deprive the Palestinians of their God-given rights - freedom to exercise human rights accepted by the world courts, the Hague, the United Nations, all faiths that matter - even the Jewish faith?

I have been following the plight of the Palestinians for decades - let us compare pomegranates to pomegranates - figs to figs - dates to dates - let us do it with full transparency and accountability.

I have Jewish friends and Palestinians and Arab friends - and they do not have any problem understanding the pertinent and salient issues at hand. It always becomes a problem - when politicians - carve out what they want to discuss - and who they want to favor - and then abashedly claim - they are fair? Fuck that.

My friends - agree that the Palestinians must be treated as human beings - they all agree children should not be killed and treated with disdain.  They agree on a multitude of factors - more because they have empathy and are educated on issues.

Years ago we invited these young Palestinians

to join us on Alcatraz Island - to experience the

sunrise ceremony - I spoke to them and heard them

clearly - how they were treated with disdain by the Israelis -

children are children and must be treated as all human beings must - with dignity, respect, listening to those that most need to be loved.

Here in San Francisco - our leaders - are quiet - not knowing what to say and more how to say and speak Truth to Power.

Times have changed - with the pandemic raging - and now calming down a little - no one knows - when a surge will suddenly arise and drown many like a Tsunami.
