This year, 2024 - World Press Freedom Day - encourages us to look at the world - not only focused on climate change - but the hundreds of journalists who have died in Gaza - those arrested on trumped-up charges in Russia - others incarcerated for speaking truth to power.
There was a time when we picked up newspapers and read them - each of us had our favorite newspapers - and the journalists who did " investigative reporting " were our favorites.
Many newspapers have recently closed their operations, especially in smaller towns and cities. In total, thousands of small newspapers and magazines have closed their operations.
The internet, online connections - the digital world has surged - and many of us are forced to spend more time glaring at the computer, laptop, iPad, or iPhone screen.
Those who read the newspapers had friends we contacted and discussed the day's many essential and newsworthy subjects.

There is a raging famine in Sudan, Darfur, and Ethiopia, floods in Kenya, genocide in Ukraine committed by Russia, and genocide in Myanmar, also known as Burma and other places.
We remember our journalists on the frontline in Cambodia, Rwanda, Vietnam, Syria, Iraq, Kurdistan, Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and China more with the Urghurs, Sudan, Darfur, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Uganda, Kenya, Angola, Mozambique, and other places.
Journalists do god's work - putting their lives on the line - to reveal the truth and shed light where there is darkness.
I have traveled all over the world and have seen with my own eyes - the politics of the time, and now it is getting worse - the recent genocide in Gaza tops all the genocides - worse than Dresden, Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Cambodia, Vietnam, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan - time will tell.
Let us again remember the many journalists who are no more.
They served us all, and we must respect and honor their memories and work.
