Our students in San Francisco - more, middle school and high school must be included - in the planning of their education. There is nothing more than having good teachers - and imparting quality - education. I still have fond memories of my teachers.
The Novel Covid-19 is challenging - this may require - hard work - thinking outside the box - we can deliver a quality product. At all times the best interests of our children, youth and young adults - must be paramount.
As we all know - a quality product - cannot happen without sound leadership. More when it pertains to sound education - using as we know - " virtual meetings " that most are not used to.
Virtual meetings are drab, not user friendly, human beings must get used to this new type - so inanimate - a huge changed from interfacing with other human beings.
Listening intently, more facial expression that affect our brain - and send all sorts of friendly signals - that make us comprehend, make us feel good - and help our learning progress.
It is pathetic watching some human beings - staring at the screen - motionless and wondering what is happening.
More so when those talking - fail to connect with the audience that they should challenge, create a friendly atmosphere, and facilitate thoughts, ideas and more.
I have witnessed presenters - during the " virtual meetings " beating around the bush - rather than speak to the point - and be more inclusive and holistic. In short be user friendly - time will tell.
As human beings - most of us are used to person to person interactions.
We under the pandemic - has forced us to practice " community distancing ". It has also increased our stress.
Virtual meetings are stressful - we may not know this - so those who foster - virtual meetings - must put themselves in the shoes of those they are presenting - and most presenters do not.
While presenting the information - the presenters must try impart information - that sounds interesting - but also is valuable.
This new way of communicating is new - we know this - it is stressful to listen more when the sessions are long. Breaks are necessary - during the intervals - music and means that reduce stress and pleased the senses - should be exercised.
There is no way to gather - empirical data - right now - as to how this type of imparting information - impacts our senses, our well being, and no one is focusing on adverse impacts to our health.
A critical point of reference - the amount of time any student - can focus - pay attention - and retain the information.
We already noticed - before the pandemic - many students - failing to pay attention - forcing teachers to use other methods - to arrive at some solutions - to remedy the situation at hand. Attention deficit.
Virtual meetings and plannings - do not always afford the opportunity for students and parents - to give their meaningful input. This input is important as parents and students - value their children and their education.
Students must speak up and sound the clarion call.
Work with your parents to make " good trouble " and all will be well.
There is a lot of information out there - the ability to discern, to filter and choose the best vetted information is sound - education.
I interact with students and allow them to speak their mind.
Encourage them to ask what ever type of question they want to ask.
At first they are shy - but more and more when you allow them to frame their questions - guiding them as best you can - the dialog begins - they have in most case to feel comfortable and that come with gaining their confidence and trust.
There is monolog and then there is dialogue - you permit the person asking you a question or questions - all the time - allowing the student to feel comfortable - giving the student - her or his own space - preparing the student to ask what they feel at the moment - never interrupting them - which prepares the way for one to give the student - the best answer possible - in the given - circumstances.
Most schools are now preparing themselves to tweak the curricula - and the students are getting ready to receive the information - through the many " virtual meetings".
The outreach to review the curricula - is critical - more when the parents linked to the " middle school students " - want to participate - and wish to review the contents - and give quality input.
The outreach in San Francisco when it come to our SF Unified School District - lacks standards.
Please- contact more parents and not just those that are easy to reach and may not fully represent the parents and children.
